ASEM Food Safety Week: Promoting Cooperation and Coordination

More than 300 attendants from various sectors of food industries exchanged their knowledge and expertise at the ASEM Food Safety Week on 6-7 November 2014 in Changsha, China.

Under the theme of “Promoting Cooperation and Coordination”, food industry specialists met with government officials to better understand the national and global challenges in promoting food safety measures. During the series of seminars and training sessions, industry experts and policy-makers stressed the significance of assuring food safety in all stages of food production, processing, transport and retail – from farm to fork.

“This seminar reinforced communication about food security technology, helped to strengthen people’s focus on food security and taught useful knowledge of food security. It has provided beneficial lessons and experience for my company to promote our food security surveillance system domestically” said Mr Roger LUO, one of the event’s participants from an information systems organisation based in China.

This Food Safety Week showcased the commitment of ASEM members in endorsing sustainable development practices. The national regulatory agencies, government representatives and food industry specialists reaffirmed their continuous determination in working together under the ASEM framework and bringing food that is safe for consumption.

The ASEM Food Safety Week: Promoting Cooperation and Coordination was jointly organised by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and Changsha People's Government, in partnership with the ASEF University Alumni Network (ASEFUAN) and supported by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF).
