A hundred films were screened at the the Asia Meets Europe Film Festival, which was held as part of the annual Helsinki Film Festival under the theme, "Love & Anarchy." The film categories included Asia-Europe Forum, New Japanese Cinema, and Films from South Korea.

Showcasing the quality of independent film-making in Asia and Europe, the Asia Meets Europe film selections included Japanese animation and several action films such as "Fantasy And Midnight Madness." The audience also had a chance to vote for their favourite film, and the winners were "Cantet" and a China-Italy co-production "Seventeen Years," directed by Zhang Yuan. The second place was shared by Singaporean film "Eating Air," directed by Kelvin Tong and Jasmine Ng, and Danish film "I Kina Spiser de hunde," directed by Lasse Spang Olsen. The third place went to a China-Germany co-production, "Suzhou," directed by You Le.

The Helsinki Film Festival and the Asia Meets Europe Film Festival sold 33,000 tickets, which made the film event the most popular in Finland at the time.
